Professional Goals

In the long term, I would like to make the internet a more powerful and friendly environment for learning, collaboration and teaching, and empower people to use such an internet wisely to enhance personal creativity and effect positive societal and political change.

My current professional interests lie at the intersection of three worlds: the university, K-12 education, and computer software, particularly that of the internet. An overarching question is how higher education and K-12 educators can collaborate and learn from each other, improving learning outcomes through the use of internet technologies. I have a particular specialization in software as the Technology Architect for the Interactive University of UC Berkeley, a project that aims to make available the people and resources of the campus available to K-12 teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area and California.

Brief Professional Bio

I have been involved in software development for over fifteen years, working in areas ranging from image processing, cellular and protein simulation, web services, statistical educational software and online community development. I received a Ph.D. in Biophysics at the University of California, Berkeley in 1997 and a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science (Physics Option) from the University of Toronto. While earning my Ph.D., I also taught computer science, philosophy, and personal development to K-11 students in the Academic Talent Development Program on the Berkeley campus.

I have a weblog on information technology architecture and other topics that catch my fancy.
