Location: http://www.mactia.berkeley.edu/aop/modules/Neo1_module_web.htm
Project: Archaeological Research Facility
Creator: Ruth Tringham
Subject area: Social studies
Grade level: 6
Purpose: This module is intended for incorporation in the 6th grade Ancient Civilizations curriculum, as a supplementary unit encouraging an understanding of daily life in the Neolithic - especially what it means to be living in houses - as understood by archaeologists, through active, hands-on learning. It is designed to encourage the students to think about what a difference living in permanent dwellings would have made to the daily lives of people. It encourages a constructivist view of history by showing how archaeologists rarely come up with a definite interpretation of what we excavate but have to consider many different interpretations.
