Mojave Drawings
Growing up my family did a lot of camping. In my teens we camped several times in different areas of the Mojave in the vicinity of Barstow and Victorville, including weeklong trips during Easter break. Coinicidentally, after my older brother joined the Air Force he was stationed at Victorville for at least a year, and he joined us a couple of times when we were in the area.
The drawings of the last few days are prompted by my memory of being in the Mojave: standing in large, open, flat rocky planes under deep blue sky; hiking small mountains with incredible vistas above desert floors to other cone-shaped mountains; walking under stars and in moonlight; desert brush and flowers; family time; the contrast of looking up close and seeing into great distance; how even a short walk alone quickly becomes a solitary moment and experience; the freedom of not being around "things" except those made over millions of years. It hadn't occurred to me until I wrote these two paragraphs that it's that time of year again.
